Rome's Own Musical Ensembles, Inc. has gained a reputation for hosting outstanding concert events. Its events regularly create quite a buzz in the community as people scramble for free tickets before the concerts and discuss them for weeks afterwards. Playing to capacity audiences in the Rome City Auditorium, the groups under the R.O.M.E. umbrella have earned standing ovations for great music, creative themes and programming, and the inclusion of guest artists from Rome, Atlanta, and beyond.

Dr. Sam Baltzer is director of the music education program at Shorter College
in Rome, GA. Besides his responsibilities at Shorter, Sam also directs all
of the R.O.M.E. musical ensembles - the Northwest Georgia Winds,
Chamber Players of the South, and the Clocktower Jazz Ensemble. He also
leads and plays string bass in Applescraps, a small jazz combo. Sam is an
active composer, arranger, performer, and clinician. The Rome Area Council
for the Arts (RACA)
awarded their Artist of the Year award to Sam
in 1998.

Sam says          It seems only a year ago that we were announcing a new season,
and here we are again! This will be a special season as we celebrate
the NW GA WINDS 25th year of music making.  It’s been quite a journey!

Once again this season, R.O.M.E. will present five FREE concerts by the WINDS,
the popular Heart and Soul concert by the Clock Tower Jazz Ensemble and
Soul Revue, and a concert by the Ceilidh Celtic Ensemble with a guest group
from Atlanta. We will also continue our collaboration with the Shorter
University Opera Theatreby providing the pit orchestra for Mozart’s Magic Flute,
and we’ll continue our Young Audience Series that has brought exciting shows
to over 10,000 area school children in the last four years.

We will also host a Cabaret by the Shorter Music Theatre students to benefit
St. Jude Children’s Hospital and host a concert by the TARA Winds, one of the
best adult bands in the country. So many exciting programs!

We invest a lot of time and love in these events and here’s what YOU can do to help:
